ABOUT THE ARTIST - KELLY J. COMPEAU
At age 10, Kelly was already merging her natural aptitude for business administration and the creative arts with weekend garage sales, selling both store-bought art & décor pieces along with her own hand-made jewellery, paintings and sculptural works of art. By age 14 she was taking university-level graphic arts courses, and teaching arts & crafts to kids, age 5-12. Throughout high school, Kelly explored many different aspects of graphic design, from cartoon illustration, water, oil and acrylic painting, clay sculpture, paper maché and woodworking to photography and commercial graphic arts (product packaging, posters, brochures, magazine ads etc.). After graduation, Kelly furthered her education by taking part-time college courses in commercial graphic design and photography while employed at numerous retail stores as a sales clerk, occasionally assisting managers with the creation of posters and flyers, writing ad copy and taking photographs for print ads. Throughout the 1990s and into the new century, Kelly worked for over a dozen retailers, including Ikea, Bombay Company, Pier 1 Imports and Pottery Barn where she exercised her natural talent for interior design by creating eye-catching vignettes and window displays. Long fascinated by the extraordinary environments found in movies such as Star Wars, Blade Runner, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Batman, Alien and Dune, Kelly launched Artistic Interiors in 2001, which specializes in designing spaces with a historic or theatrical theme (e.g. decorating them to look like an African hut, a Tibetan monastery, a Persian harem, an Egyptian tomb, gothic castle, ancient cave or spaceship). This flair for the dramatic eventually led to work as a set decorator and prop-maker for live theatre and TV news/talk/lifestyle programming. Kelly now focuses mostly on working with interior designers to create custom works of art for their discriminating clientele.
